The Latin-American Workshop on High Energy Physics “Particle and Strings” held in Havana, Cuba from July 16 , 2012 to July 21, 2012 with the participation of 83 researchers from 16 countries mainly from Latin-American and European countries. The scientific program of the workshop included 16 lectures and 34 short talks covering a wide range of topics, both experimental and theoretical, of high energy physics. The lectures, held by world leading experts in the field, review some of the most relevant achievements and techniques in LHC experiments, QCD, String theory, Gravity and Cosmology .
The conference offered a unique opportunity to researchers from Cuba and Latin-American countries to confront themselves with researches at the forefront of the research in the field and to present and discuss their work in front of a very qualified audience. The participants gave life to lively discussion sessions in a very friendly atmosphere. Besides the enormous impact of this event on the research on High Energy Physics in this area, the Conference supports the participation of 34 cuban researchers (around 3500 euro) and donate 1600 euro to the Cuban research Institutions ICIMAF and CEADEN. ICTP supports with 4000 euro the participation of 10 researchers from Latin-American countries.
The quality of the scientific exchanges and the strong motivation of young students and researchers from Latin-American countries point on the importance and need of organizing conferences of this type in a more regular basis and the organizers of this conference commit themselves to work in this direction in the near future.
